LEADING LADIES' FAQ

Temperature:
The average temperature for late August is 75 degrees by noon.
The start of the race is usually at about 44 degrees.

Elevation:
The full marathon begins at 6,000 feet at the Lead Country Club,
and drops gently to 3,400 in Spearfish City Park.

Surface:
Mostly pavement, some gravel, 1/2 mile concrete bike path.

Running Protocol:
RUN FACING TRAFFIC ALWAYS. Cutting the tangent might save a second; could lose a life. Please, no support folks in cars or on bikes…look for them In park and at the finish; safety first.

Travel:
Fly into Rapid City, SD…renting a car is best so you can enjoy the Black Hills. It’s 60 miles to Spearfish, SD. There is a shuttle service from the airport; pricey but possible.

Logistics:
All packets must be picked up from 5-7 on Friday afternoon, or 9-5 on Saturday.
NO RACE DAY PICK UP. Will leave your packet at the holiday Inn front desk if you request.

FULL MARATHON BUSES DEPART HOLIDAY INN AT 4:00 A.M. BUSES AT CAPACITY LIMIT WILL GO TO LEAD COUNTY CLUB (START LINE) VIA HWY.85. PARTIALLY FULL MARATHON BUSES AT HOLIDAY INN WILL GO TO SPEARFISH CITY PARK (FINISH LINE)TO PICK UP FULL MARATHON RUNNERS, AND DEPART FROM THE PARK AT 4:15, EITHER UP THE CANYON OR VIA HWY 85.

HALF MARATHON BUSES DEPART FROM HOLIDAY INN AT 4:30 A.M. AND GO TO SPEARFISH CITY PARK,(FINISH LINE) PICK UP HALF MARATHON RUNNERS AND DEPART AT 4:45 A.M. FOR LATCH STRING (STARTLINE) INN VIA SPEARFISH CANYON ROAD.

The trolley will shuttle finishers to the Holiday Inn every hour beginning at 9:00 AM.

Boston Qualifier:
Yes! Remember the BAA has gone back to less relaxed times so this is a great opportunity for qualifying; chip timed and fast.

Porta Potti Situation:
Many at the start, more at the half, and intermittently on the
Course; I know, never enough…trees everywhere.

Aid Stations:
About every 2 miles after the first 3.4…“manned” by HOT GUYS!
Water, PowerAde, food….Chocolate!

Time Limit:
Course officially closes at seven hours; don’t worry about it.

Walkers:
Always welcome in all events.
