I am looking forward to the upcoming marathon. This will be my 29th state and 34th marathon total - my first all women's marathon!
I have been a runner for about 15 years (started running seriously - as serious as cross-country can be - when I was 15). I ran my first marathon when I was a sophomore in college and that was it - I was hooked! I ran 1-2 marathons a year (qualifying for Boston each time, and then had a runner friend talk me into finally running Boston - I ran the 101st Boston marathon - got food poisoning the night before, ended up running my slowest time, but finished and really was glad for the experience (of Boston, not food poisoning). I then started grad school (while I was working full time) and ran only 1 marathon over the course of 3 years...after I completed grad school I began to think about how cool it would be to run a marathon in all 50 states. I then started on the 50 state journey just over a year and a half ago and have had a blast. I've met so many great people, seen some really awesome terrains, had some really great runs, but most of all, have had some amazing challenges - which is what keeps me coming back for more! Whew, that was a bit long winded, but hopefully it gives you a sense of the passion that we all share as runners ;).
Here's to the marathon experience in Spearfish!
